Definition:
Electronic Trademark Examination Application System - electronic trademark filing system. It allows the public to complete various trademark filings and transactions on-line.

Washington Treaty

Definition:
China was among the first countries to sign this treaty, but the United States and Japan did not sign it due to disagreements with compulsory licences, the treatment of innocent infringement, and the protection of designs when they are incorporated in industrial products.

Trade Name

Definition:
A symbol used to identify and distinguish companies, partnerships, and businesses, as opposed to marks used to identify and distinguish goods or services.

EBC

Definition:
Electronic Business Center - includes links to Patents EBC and Trademarks EBC - a web page containing hyperlinks to all online systems for conducting electronic commerce with the USPTO.

Change Of Name

Definition:
Owners of trademark applications and registrations change their names, even though the actual ownership of the application or registration has not been transferred.

National Treatment

Definition:
A work originating in one of the member country must be given at least the same level of protection in each member country as that country gives to works created by its own citizens.
